| 1968 saw the demise of steam locomotives in this country as daily running converted to diesel. However there are many preserved steam railways including two flourishing ones within 40 kilometres of Worcester. Occasionally we see main line excursions and this location within a short distance of our city centre provides a fine portrayal of steam as it used to be 40 years ago.
This stretch of the River Severn, no longer used for commercial traffic, is home to a swannery and a rowing club and during the summer there are leisure activities such as dragon boat racing and, of course, a regular stream of narrowboats. |
